Then… it all went a little cloudy in my mind. And the dark cloud that I had fallen into got darker. I may have stumbled as I tried to navigate my way back home. I should have realized by now that this was some sort of fainting spell, but it was so real… or maybe I just wanted it to be real.

At one point, Luke was there…so close I was touching him. I could feel his breath on my face, his touch. For a moment, I let this feeling consume me.

I could almost taste his sweet kiss on my brow. The scent of amaretto and ice cream was all around. If this was an alternate reality, then I was staying put, thanks.

Inside my dream, I lingered a while, it was nicer inside here than it was outside and It did not yet question how I had come to be enveloped in here, so unexpectedly snugly. I didn’t really feel like waking up just yet.

Luke smiled, flashing his teeth and smoothing his brow. He came to embrace me. I had wished for this moment for so long… and now…

…This girl I’d just met didn’t know me from Adam, but she had worked me out in the first five minutes that she clapped eyes on me. Was I really that transparent?

I was in love with Luke and had been for many years. Try as I might push it to the back of my mind, it kept coming back. The truth was, I hadn’t really had a proper relationship, not female or most definitely not with a male, that had gone any deeper than the skin. But he was well underneath it, always had been since way back.

I hadn’t really had many boyfriends, at all and the ones that I had had been rather a superficial arrangement, to say the least.

If Scarlett could figure out what my feelings for him were, then what if Luke knew too?
